On Sunday, 27th July, 2014 Smt. Anandiben Patel took the decision to raise the income limit to Rs 47,000 in rural areas and Rs 68,000 in urban zones

With a view to extend benefit of the state government’s Social Justice-Rights Scheme to maximum number of beneficiaries, the annual income limit standards have been raised by 74 to 89 %.

The decision is taken in order to develop deprived people. The state government has allocated Rs 1957-Cr in its current budget to the Social justice and rights department. As a result of this, the chief minister had announced this decision.

Earlier, the annual income limit for beneficiaries under the scheme was Rs 27,000 in rural areas, but, now it would be Rs 47,000.

Keeping in view the minimum wage for the unskilled workers in urban areas, the Chief Minister had raised the annual income limit to Rs 68,000 from existing limit of Rs 36,000, showing a rise of 89 %.

The decision was taken by the Chief Minister in view of rising of industrializations and the rise in living cost in the urban areas. The limits were raised to extend the benefits of the scheme to the last man of the society.

It is necessary to be pointed out here that the state government had taken this decision in view of the report submitted to the Central Government by the Tendulkar Committee for minimum wages to extend benefits of the scheme for social services like education, social security, health, woman-child development, physically handicapped and senior citizens.
